Point Pleasant Borough
Ocean County, New Jersey
River Town

Where the river meets the neighborhood.

Point Pleasant Borough sits on the Manasquan River — a mile inland from the Atlantic, rooted in tree-lined blocks and a downtown that still runs on handshakes. Not a beach town, but minutes from the sand. A place where marinas and main streets set the pace.

Three ways to know the borough

From riverfront to main street, the borough unfolds at its own pace.

Manasquan mornings

The river is quietest at dawn. Grab a coffee from one of Arnold Avenue's early-opening shops and walk south toward the Manasquan inlet. Watch fishing boats head out, kayakers glide past, and the morning light hit the water. This is the borough at its most peaceful.

Arnold Avenue afternoons

Arnold Avenue is the borough's spine — a walkable stretch of locally owned shops, restaurants, and storefronts that has resisted the pull of chains. Duck into a pizzeria that's been here for decades, browse a gift shop, pick up bait for tomorrow's fishing trip. Everything is within a ten-minute walk.

Neighborhood evenings

As the day winds down, the borough's neighborhoods come alive in a quieter way. Kids on bikes, neighbors on porches, the smell of backyard grills. Community Park fills with evening walkers. The pace slows, and that's the point.

Your perfect day

A relaxed rhythm that fits the river town — morning to evening.

Morning

Start at the river. Walk the Manasquan Riverwalk from Riverfront Park toward the inlet, where the water opens to the bay. Stop at a local cafe for breakfast — egg sandwiches and strong coffee are the borough standard.

Midday

Head to Arnold Avenue for lunch. The downtown has everything from classic Jersey pizza to fresh seafood. After eating, explore the side streets — there are antique shops, outfitters, and bakeries just off the main strip.

Afternoon

The beach is ten minutes east in Point Pleasant Beach. Or stay in the borough: rent a kayak, fish from the bridge, or relax at Community Park. Riverfront Park has boat launches for those who brought gear.

Evening

Dinner at one of the borough's sit-down restaurants, then a walk through the neighborhoods as the streetlights come on. In summer, there's often live music or community events at the parks.

Before you visit

Pointers for visitors, families, and new neighbors.

Parking

The borough has free street parking in residential areas. Arnold Avenue has metered spots, but side streets are usually open. In summer, arrive early on weekends — parking fills fast near the river.

Seasonal rhythms

Summer is the borough's peak — expect crowds at restaurants and on the water. Spring and fall are ideal for quieter visits with warm weather and open tables. Winter has its own charm: empty streets, local regulars, and off-season prices.

Local culture

This is a community where people know each other's names. Don't be surprised when a stranger waves. Ask for recommendations — the best spots aren't always on Google Maps.

Borough vs. Beach

Point Pleasant Borough and Point Pleasant Beach are separate towns. The borough is inland, on the river. The beach is on the ocean. Locals will correct you if you mix them up — gently.

Getting here

An hour from the city, minutes from the shore.

By car

Take the Garden State Parkway to Exit 98, then Route 34 south. The borough is about 70 miles from Manhattan and 90 miles from Philadelphia. Street parking is free in most neighborhoods.

By train

NJ Transit's North Jersey Coast Line stops in Point Pleasant Beach, a short drive or rideshare from the borough. Service runs from Penn Station New York and Newark.

Getting around

Once you're here, the borough is walkable. Arnold Avenue, the river, and most parks are within a one-mile radius. Bikes are common in summer.
